Please join Circle Forming for a Lammas Potluck Picnic and Welcome Circle on Sunday, August 6th at 12 noon at Onteora Lake State Park.

Directions to Onteora Lake State Park:
Take Route 28 North out of the traffic circle in Kingston
Go 4 miles. It's the first turn on the right, less than a mile, up the hill and around a curve from THE DOLL HOUSE. Look for a brown wooden sign with yellow lettering.

The potluck picnic will begin at noon, the circle, for those who want to stay, will begin promptly at 1:30. Please plan to attend both events so we can get to know each other before the circle. Please understand that for magical reasons we will not admit anyone to the circle once it has begun.

Feel free to bring other people who are seriously interested in participating in a pagan circle. Please do not bring people who want to be spectators, children, or pets.

Please bring a potluck dish to share with about 10 people. Something related to the holiday, such as seasonal produce or fresh bread is nice, but by no means necessary. Bring what you want to eat! Also bring the usual things to make yourself comfortable at a picnic, such as a blanket to sit on. There is a lake, so if you like to swim, bring the things appropriate to that activity. (There isn’t anywhere to change your clothes except a porta-potty.) As far as ritual garments go, what you have on is good. As far as ritual tools go, bring what you like or nothing at all.

We will send you an outline of the ritual before hand, so you have a clue what is going to happen, the better to have the circle run smoothly.

If you have any questions, email either myself at rheaturtle@yahoo.com or one of the other members of Circle Forming. You can find their email addresses in the cc line of this email. Please RSVP by way of the events list.

Several people have asked for more information about Circle Forming. We meet every Friday evening in the area around New Paltz. People come to as many circles as often as they want to. No one has to come at any particular time.

We are more or less Wiccan. We usually follow some semblance of the Wiccan form opening a circle, calling elements, and deities. One practice unique to Circle Forming; instead of calling one God and one Goddess, we each call a deity, spirit, or ancestor. It gives each participant a voice and the ear.

What we do is mostly celebratory. We celebrate the 8 Sabbats. We did a ritual for the katydids last summer. We also do some healing work and divination. We do some trance work and I, for one, want to do a lot more of that. We have talked about doing things like job finding spells, but somehow that has never happened. We haven’t done much worship per se, but that may be shifting soon. We are Circle Forming – we are always forming, always moving, always playing and growing.

We are a no obligation circle. We meet with people and chat. If it seems like a good fit, we circle together. If the individual wants to do it again, she or he returns as many times as suits.

A little over a year ago we started out with a group of 3, all of whom are still around. We have had a couple of people come to meet us and leave without circling, a couple circle with us only once, a few who show up when they can, and one person stick around and become our 4th core member. Right now, several people have expressed the desire for more information and we are pretty excited about the idea of growing. Our minimal goal is to have at least 5 people in circle every week, even when some of us can’t make it. If you are still interested, the best thing to do is come meet us.
